Matthew’s talent is awakening, but so are the secrets he’s tried to bury. To save ‘Nando, he’ll have to risk everything—including who he thought he was allowed to be.
With Matthew’s best friend about to leave him to go to the Talent Academy, a high school for superheroes, Matthew’s world feels like it’s crashing down. But when ‘Nando’s life is at stake, Matthew finds the talent to rise to the top. If he can master his talent and his own secrets, he may even become one of the best. This queer coming of age story is heartfelt and loaded with action!
About the author
Writing the superhero stories he needed as a queer kid.
David “Lep” Morey is the author of the Prime Academy series — sci-fi/fantasy YA novels following queer teens navigating the halls (and hallways-that-occasionally-explode) of a superhero high school. His books blend coming-of-age stories with found-family friendships, first crushes, and the very real stakes of figuring out who you are — powers or no powers.
Beyond the page, David has spent years immersed in theater and drama, both acting and directing, and has a longtime love of singing through choir and musical theater. He is gay and brings that lived perspective into the queer characters and communities at the heart of his fiction. David currently lives in Florida.
There's a depth to the kids and the story that I wasn't expecting, and it's a delight to find. I also love that the superheros are just people.
